Funding opportunities for southern Ontario organizations

Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs) help the Government of Canada deliver on its Innovation and Skills Plan in the regions. RDAs across Canada offer programming to foster the right environment to start and grow businesses and create the conditions for the development of strong, dynamic and inclusive regional innovation ecosystems across the country.

With over $1 billion in funding, FedDev Ontario is making investments that drive innovation and growth in the region. Of this funding, an initial $100 million is dedicated to support for smaller and rural communities to continue their vital role in the region's economy. Applications can be submitted under our three funding streams that have been designed to meet the needs of our innovators, job creators and communities.

FedDev Ontario is also delivering more than $30 million through the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy to help women start and grow their businesses in southern Ontario.

In addition, FedDev Ontario is delivering over $39 million in funding through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation Steel and Aluminum Initiative. This Initiative, delivered by RDAs, will provide $100 million across Canada to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Canadian steel and aluminum supply chains to support innovative projects that will enhance productivity and/or competitiveness.

FedDev Ontario is also delivering more than $11 million through the Canadian Experiences Fund. Delivered by RDAs, this program provides $58.5 million over two years to support communities across Canada as they create, improve or enhance tourism products, facilities and experiences.

To best target our investments and maximize their impact on southern Ontario, we held roundtables from March to May 2019 to seek feedback from stakeholders in urban and rural areas. Learn more about how we are working to shape a stronger southern Ontario.
