Markham, Ontario — Novo Plastics Inc. is advancing the development and production of its innovative plastic muffler system for local and international markets, thanks to a federal investment of up to $975,000 announced today by Paul Calandra, Member of Parliament for Oak Ridges-Markham, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Contribution to Novo Plastics

Novo Plastics Inc. manufactures engineered plastic parts and assemblies for the automotive and consumer/commercial industries. Created in 2006, Novo is based in Markham, Ontario, but has strategic alliances in the United States, Germany, India and South Korea.

Its competitive advantage is its series of innovative products that focus on positive environmental impact and weight reduction: Novo ECO2. Novo has successfully developed and tested a unique, patent-protected plastic muffler system.

A repayable contribution of up to $975,000 through FedDev Ontario’s Prosperity Initiative is helping Novo Plastics to be the first company to bring this product to market. The funding is to assist the company to reconfigure its plant, acquire new equipment and enhance its manufacturing processes.

Novo’s plastic muffler has the potential to improve the environmental impact and cost-competitiveness of transportation industry manufacturers, especially in southern Ontario, home to many automotive assembly plants. It also represents an opportunity to export the product to markets around the world, as manufacturers strive to become more environmentally-friendly.

The project will also create high-quality local jobs, as the company secures production contracts.
