The idea came to him while counting cars at the side of the road—his summer job during university. Now, as the CEO of a multinational traffic management technology company, Kurtis McBride is thankful for those youthful days and the inspiration behind his highly successful business.
Founded in 2005 by McBride and two University of Waterloo classmates, Miovision is reinventing the way traffic infrastructure is managed with an industry-leading traffic data collection solution and cloud-based remote signal management technology.

The company’s flagship product, Scout, is the industry-leading traffic counting device for professional data collectors that’s being used at over 50 percent of the traffic intersections in North America. Miovision’s newest product, Spectrum, is a purpose-built turnkey solution to wirelessly connect, manage and understand traffic signals.
Miovision received a repayable contribution from FedDev Ontario’s Investing in Business Innovation initiative, which helped McBride and his partners advance their business.
