eSentire is creating a safe cyberspace for businesses
Region: Cambridge, Ontario
Program: Investing in Business Innovation
Total funding allocated: $987,500
It all began with a few questions. Could businesses, small and large, rely on the internet every day and trust it with valuable information? Could an independent consulting opportunity become a profitable business? Could a successful cybersecurity company emerge from a single inspired vision? Eldon Sprickerhoff, Founder of Cambridge-based eSentire, recognized a market need for cyber protection and developed his vision around it, creating a company that received support from FedDev Ontario’s Investing in Business Innovation initiative.
“FedDev Ontario’s funding enabled us to prove that our central business idea had merit and allowed us to grow to the next phase,” says Sprickerhoff. “After a few years as a consultant, I wanted to see how I could establish a boutique information security practice. I found J. Paul Haynes, an entrepreneur who had experience in growing and managing companies. He came on as our CEO and we took off from there.”
eSentire helps to keep businesses safe from internet threats through cybersecurity services that detect and respond to cyber-attacks in real time. The company’s growing success has allowed it to strengthen its place in key markets and expand its reach on a broader scale. According to Sprickerhoff, like the internet, cybersecurity changes constantly, making eSentire’s growing presence in the market more important than ever for businesses.
“The threat landscape in this field has changed markedly since we began and it’s great to see how we’ve adapted over the years to meet the ever-evolving challenge,” says Sprickerhoff.
Since its establishment in 2001, the company has reached impressive milestones, being recognized as one of Canada’s small and medium employers in 2017 as well as Deloitte’s Fast 50 companies in Canada in 2016.
“I’m proud to see the success we’ve achieved in protecting our clients and improving their security stance,” says Sprickerhoff. “I am very proud of my fellow employees and how far we’ve come and the calibre of work that has come from them.”
