The Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) helps to support smaller scale municipal infrastructure such as water and wastewater treatment, or cultural and recreation projects, for smaller and First Nations communities.
In May 2007, the Government of Canada announced an additional $200 million to top up the initial $1 billion program.
To help smaller and rural Ontario communities, the Government of Canada has decided to make Ontario's $64 million portion of the top-up available to community water-related projects that had been submitted under Intake Three of the Canada-Ontario Municipal Infrastructure Fund (COMRIF) that were not accepted in the last allocation of the original budget, as all program funding had been committed.
All funds for the top-up have been committed and FedDev Ontario is responsible for monitoring the progress of the approved projects in Ontario on behalf of the Government of Canada.
