Applied Research and Commercialization Initiative

FedDev Ontario's Applied Research and Commercialization Initiative is a pilot initiative aimed at addressing the gap between research and commercialization in southern Ontario by encouraging collaboration between small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and post-secondary institutions.

This initiative is designed to encourage partnerships between post-secondary institutions with applied research expertise and SMEs with pre-market needs. Its goals are to accelerate innovation and to improve productivity and competitiveness for businesses located in southern Ontario.

Since its launch as a two-year pilot in 2010, the initiative has brought 24 colleges, universities and polytechnics across southern Ontario together with more than 300 businesses. In December 2011, a one-year extension was announced, with funding of up to $15 million, to enable these post-secondary institutions to apply for additional funding to partner with more businesses, while current projects are being evaluated.

A list of post-secondary institutions that have been approved for funding is available under Funded Projects. Contributions related to the extension will be added as they are approved.
