Vice-President, Business, Innovation and Community Programs

Clair Gartley

In January 2010, Clair Gartley was named the Vice-President, Business, Innovation and Community Programs for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Vice-President Gartley brings with him more than 28 years of experience from the provincial government in New Brunswick, where he was Assistant Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Bio-economy. Most recently, he was the Director General for Innovation with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Ottawa, where he led the development and delivery of a new innovation program engaging government, university and private sector researchers in support of industry led clusters and activities. He has collaborated with Regional Economic Development Agencies and communities on a number of initiatives and has championed the creation of programming that addresses pre-commercialization funding gaps and accelerating the uptake of technologies by the private sector.

Throughout his career, Mr. Gartley has led multi-disciplinary teams in the development and implementation of large grants and contribution programs, established national and regional innovation initiatives and has led the development of public and private sector partnerships.

Mr. Gartley grew up in New Brunswick and graduated with an engineering degree from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in Halifax.
